I found out I could get a free phone upgrade and pay less per month to switch back to Credo mobile, plus they increased their network, so I'm changing back.  Supposedly the camera is better on the iphone SE.   I hope so.  There are several things that have been disappointing to me about the prior camera (iphone 5).  I also downloaded an app that's supposed to let me take photos at night.

I also got a free 200 Mb upgrade for six months on my Internet service.  I'm not sure I will be able to tell the difference. I often think that the speed that I experience is more a function of how fast my processor is working than how fast the Internet is working.

I'm staring at pictures of Juliet Evancho and wondering how my son/daughter will look.  I'm pretty sure Juliet must have gotten implants.

My blood levels of cancer antigen have started going up again. I was so happy when they went down -- but that was only for 2 months, apparently.  I guess I'll be in chemo soon again.

Some good news on the political front with the healthcare repeal being postponed and Congress seemingly moving toward revoking #45's authority to start war on his own.

I get my phone through work. It's still $70 a month with taxes, but only 1 year contracts and unlimited data. That's the cheapest plan too. I don't use that much data though. We have to have Verizon out here if you leave the city at all, which my family does.

Hopefully your blood levels will come down again arrow. It seems like that test has you high a lot and then it comes back down. I hope you don't have to have chemo.

Well, I got 'the letter' today. They were impressed by my skills and appreciate my applying, but they've offered the job to someone else. I hate getting this stuff on Fridays. Now I have a lovely long holiday weekend to stew about it. Can't talk to anyone about it either, aka whine, except my best friend on the phone. I didn't tell my mom I was applying as if I didn't get it and she knew, she would be listing all kinds of things that I obviously did wrong.

I could really use that money. So, I will just have to keep applying for stuff. There problem is that there isn't much to apply for right now because of the hiring freeze and the budget issues that will last for years. I need to stay at the university to stay in the student loan plan I have, which Trump and his horrible people are trying to do away with now. It would be payment without end at that point. Their income based payments keep climbing and climbing. My payment last year went up 25% when I got a 2.4% raise. I don't know how that calculates out. This year, we just got our notifications online today as our raises start in the middle of the year as we are on the Fiscal Year, and I got a whopping 1.6% raise this year (note that this is a really good raise where I work). The cost of living is going up way faster than my income, so every gain I make is just almost enough to pay for the rise in prices. I make the same amount as people who have just started and have no degree. That makes me mad beyond measure. I know I will find the right job at some point, but I am so irritated right now. I will be fine, but someday, I will be good for once.

So, now I just have to sit for a few days and pout. I am telling you, I am so beyond sick of Plan B. Everything I have planned for years now has ended up being Plan B as I can't catch a break. Not that I am starving or out of a place to live, but I am so tired of pinching pennies. I went years without vacations or doing much or going anywhere and it didn't help at all. One medical bill and that took years to pay off, even though I am fully insured. Now I have more vacation days than I know what to do with and just take them to hang around the house. If I don't use them, I lose them and I will be darned if I am going to do that if I can avoid it. I guess I am feeling stuck. Treading water. Seriously, when do I get Plan A?

I also have to recalculate my vacation. I was putting it off, but since no new job, I have to pinch the pennies harder. We will have to skip a few more things. The cost of hotels is a lot and I've found some cheap ones, but on the coast it's too much, so back to the drawing board and I leave in two weeks. Since I am making a loup, I have found that there's not much to do in Ohio and Indiana. My youngest niece isn't into shopping, though we will stop at some antique malls. I love antique shopping. I don't buy much, but it's fun to see all the stuff. She loves the beach, but I just get to sit under an umbrella while she plays because I can't be out there for very long.

I've started stripping my carpet up, pulling up tack strip and staples. I couldn't find anyplace that rents a laminate cutter and I am not buying one, so I will just have to cut each piece and make a lot of sawdust. I am now not in the mood to put flooring in my room, but since I had already started pulling up carpet already, so I have to finish it now. I just hope it goes  quickly, unlike the bathroom.

My bathroom is lots cheerier than it was, but I still have some touch ups to do. It's endless.

Well, that is my long winded whine of grand disappointment for the day. I truly hope you all are doing so much better.

Well, Para, that is rotten! Then again, maybe something even better will come along soon. I will keep my fingers crossed on your behalf.

I hear you about not letting your mom know that you had applied. My siblings and I have also had to start keeping things from our mother, in part to keep her from worrying endlessly, but mostly because she can be so terribly critical and hurtful. Yes, she is elderly but she has been this way forever so I don't think we can blame dementia any other health concern. It can be very difficult even living several hours away from someone who often takes great pleasure in being just plain mean. I don't think I could cope if we had to live under the same roof for longer than a week at a time. :-(

I hope that the ongoing renovations are going well. I think I may consider doing a bit of painting outdoors next week (some old, ratty furniture that may be beyond help). I am not very handy and this may just be a fantasy that keeps me from thinking about the paperwork that I really need to attend to.

Arrow, I am sorry that you are facing health issues. That must be so very stressful when levels bounce around. I hope that the professionals can get to the bottom of what is going on.

Well, the big 150th birthday party has come and gone. There were many events going on but I decided to just hang out at home. There are times when I just can't "do" crowds, and yesterday was one of those.

So, Josh officially has finished his Broadway stint. I am looking forward to some new music after he takes some time to rest.

Yeah - at last!!  Now we can stop reading about plays and people I have never heard of and am not interested in - especially on FOJG.  Bet Josh is relieved too.  That had to be a real grind after a while.  Sure hope he gets some new music out soon and that there are still people out there interested in buying it.

Para - so sorry about the job.  I was really rooting for you.  Don't give up - you are a hard and dependable worker, and something will come along that deserves you.

Other than the big rainstorm in Ottawa and the crappy security checks on Parliament Hill, the big birthday party looked like fun. Today's celebrations went much more smoothly.  And no terror attacks - touch wood!!  We are on the hit list, though.

Yes, Padlig, some people are just nasty pieces of work from the cradle on.  I think every family gets stuck with at least one.

Hi everyone!  I hope you are having a great Canada Day/Independence Day weekend!

On Friday, I was off work, so my spouse and I saw "Wonder Woman" and had a lunch date.  It was nice for the two of us to get out while our older child watched the younger one.  Otherwise, we've been taking it pretty easy.  There has not been a lot of yard work to do as it has been hot.  We do have a neighborhood pool, which is a fun place to relax.

Several years ago we did go to the Canadian Maritimes and toured the provincial parliament building in Charlottetown, PEI.  It was a good experience to learn about the formation of the Canadian Confederation, and how so many things in U.S. and Canadian history are intertwined.  I tell friends to go to Canada to learn the "other side" of U.S. history!  Anyway, people are helpful and friendly, though prices and taxes are insane in some places.  We have been to seven provinces and toured four parliament buildings.  We went into the national one in Ottawa as well, but didn't actually do a full tour.

Para, sorry about the job, and I hope something else comes through soon.  I am in somewhat of an analogous situation with potential budget cuts affecting my job and advancement possibilities.  I have a temporary raise, but it is because a few other people have temporary promotions.  The whole house of cards may yet tumble down.  A former colleague from outside of work offered to help me out, but I haven't heard in awhile.  In my case it is not so much a case of student loans but saving up for retirement.  Well, I am thankful to have a decent job that's interesting and coworkers whom I like.

Today I am working, though at home.  I have almost 100% job functionality at home, so maybe one day I won't have to commute.  The kids are home for summer vacation, so that can be a bit of a distraction.  My spouse does take them out when I am "on the clock," which helps with a quieter atmosphere for a few hours.  Having them around, though, does cheer up the place.  In addition, I have a "window office" and I really can control the temperature!

We have a picnic to go to tomorrow for Independence Day.  I made lemon loaf cake to bring.  With this recipe, I made two loaves, so I will bring one to the picnic and another to work.  This lemon cake is pretty popular, and has wholesome, healthy ingredients such as eggs, butter, buttermilk, sugar, confectioners sugar, and about five lemons all told.  I tell people that I am on a mission to fight carbohydrate and cholesterol deficiencies.  LOL

Be well, everyone!

Ah, so THAT is where Justin is this week.  Kind of hard to keep track of him.  He is never here doing business - spends most of his time globe hopping and schmoozing. He is really good at that.  Otherwise, the bloom is coming off the rose around here.  He is also good at not keeping campaign promises and getting our country deeper into debt.

I am going to try that lemon loaf!

I am glad I don't have to keep up with that sort of intensive travel schedule. You're right, EB, that our PM seems to thrive on it, though. It's ok to have a PM who is energetic and personable and able to put a good foot forward internationally. I personally find the guy quite likeable, which is sort of refreshing. He certainly handles the nit-picky negative press and critical, hateful commentary over every little misstep in a way that is more patient and graceful than I could ever manage. Much as government extravagance can be scary, it might be acceptable if the money is spread about fairly so that all citizens get some benefit (and not just the wealthy 1% and the political hacks and cronies). Our province is in the midst of an austerity kick at the moment (thanks largely to gross financial mismanagement by the current government), and I don't recommend that, either.

I also have some reservations about certain election promises being broken or at least set aside, but I think that happens with a lot of politicians and parties who perhaps don't expect that they have any chance of winning! Some of what they have to do is mop up another party's mess, and that can be quite restricting and tiresome, especially when the scope of the mess has been concealed by the predecessors. It's probably preferable to put the brakes on rather than trying to ram through legislation that is poorly thought out or potentially harmful, though. But yes, it can be very frustrating to see promises set aside.

I hope that it was a great Independence Day for those of you who celebrated!

Well, now I am officially a Justin non fan.  Giving ten million and an apology to that terrorist Khadr??  For what?  He got what he deserved, and that whole evil family of his should have been given the boot out of here.  Too much kowtowing to special interest groups going on.  That money should have gone to help wounded veterans.  My MP is getting a strongly worded email.

I need to write more letters too--unfortunately, my MP is an extremist embarrassment so I am not sure writing would have any impact.

The Kaudr settlement sounds pretty extreme, but It's a Supreme Court ruling so nothing actually to do with the current government or PM. I am looking forward to learning more about why they are making this decision.

Well, if that is going to be how they waste my tax dollars, then I just might stop giving them any.  I can waste it better than they can.

Sorry to be incommunicada.  Travelling

Yes, they know what is going on.  They are persuaded that the cancer is coming back, even though they haven't seen it yet on the imaging.  More imaging next month.  The surgeon offered me surgery to see if spots could be visualized with the scope, but the hematological oncologist says that's useless -- as they both agree that it doesn't affect the outcome if they start the chemo before masses appear on the CT scan or wait until the masses show, because the cancer is known to have metastasized.  It's just a waiting game.  The levels have been consistently going up, except for 2 months after they started the Femara.  It's not like they're really bouncing around.  I feel ok, but I know I'm doomed. Very depressing.  Still, they can stave it off for a while with the chemo, apparently, though the surgeon says it will eventually kill me -- though that one specialist said that they might keep me alive for 30 years.

I auditioned for a rather big gig on reality TV.  I had thought that it was too long since I had heard from them, but my friend who I auditioned with, says she communicated with the casting director and we're still in the running.

It's a bit scary thinking about what would happen if I really became a celeb.  I've written all this stuff under pseudonyms.  Maybe I'll have to delete it???

Still, it's not so likely that I'll get it.  The competition for these things is intense.

Sorry I haven't been posting. I want to keep this board going.  I'm not sure why, but I guess it's been part of my life for 7 years, so I want to hang onto it.

This cancer stuff just makes me really frantic, trying to cram in everything I can think of.  I'm constantly running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

I'm going to Philadelphia next week to be in a music video.

The music video sounds exciting, Arrow. It will be an interesting experience for sure. I admire the way you go for it and try out so many new and challenging things. I am more of a turtle, apparently. Whenever something difficult enters my life, I want to hide away. In have to really fight becoming a recluse at times.

I hope that the quiet here just means that everyone is away on vacation...

I think most just lost interest.  Hopefully once that Broadway stuff has died down and more is discussed regarding a new album, things might perk up.  But I hope he doesn't wait too long.

I've been traveling a lot.

I loved Josh's show on Broadway.  There was a big group of hard core Grobies who went often.  I met one person who I think went at least 20 times.  For me, also professionally, it's really interesting to study what these people do with their voices.  It's a lot more subtle than some other things I've seen. Also the music is fascinating.  It's really very Josh. He's always been experimental in his music.  Also, he matured tremendously in the role.  By the time he did the album, his acting was superb.

It does really hurt these boards that there isn't a link to them any more on the main website.

I was supposed to be down in Philadelphia doing a music video today and tomorrow.  It was cancelled.  Very disappointing.

I believe if Josh doesn,t get a shift on his music wont sell so well.Unless, ofcourse,he wants to take another change of direction with his career and stay on musicals,in which case I shall not stay around. When I think of all the fun and discussions we used to have on here it is now so disappointing.

I agree with all three of you. It seems as though a lot of regulars never made the transition over from the old Yuku boards. And how many years ago was that?? I suppose that there is also a bit less curiosity/appeal now that JG is all grown up--still gifted, but not a dewy-eyed teenager! Hey, there is quite a lot of grey in that beard--another reason why it's time for it to go, lol!
